The Faringdon Sensory Garden Project kicked off in October 2015 when Mel Lane approached Faringdon Town Council and requested their permission to develop an abandoned and derelict patch of land (4051 sqm) into a Sensory Garden. Since then, the Project Committee has grown a bit so we now have a Chairman (Roddy Benson) and a Treasurer (Sarah Allen-Stevens) and also Gerry Millington as Secretary. Mel's role is to project manage the 2 year development. The Town Council gave us a green light to apply for planning permission as we'll need it to establish the garden cafe there. Planning permission was awarded by the Vale of White Horse District Council in October 2016 for a wooden, log cabin style cafe with a 70 sq m footprint.
The project has been costed at around £250,000 which is anticipated we'll raise through grant applications, local benefactors, relevant charities and goodwill fundraising from the local community.
The Project Committee is:
Roddy Benson - Chairman
Gerry Millington - Secretary
Sarah Allen-Stevens - Treasurer
Mel Lane - Project Manager
In February 2017, FARINGDON SENSORY GARDEN was approved as a charity and it has been entered onto the Register of Charities with the Registered Charity Number 1171663. This is wonderful news!
